Attleboro, MA – Comtran Cable, a leading manufacturer of data and communications cable for use in harsh environments, is celebrating 3 years without any lost-time safety accidents. A diligent commitment to safety practices and continuous improvement processes contributed to this accomplishment.
Maintaining a safe working environment for employees and minimizing opportunities for accidents is a top priority for Comtran. As a wire and cable manufacturer, Comtran incorporated lean manufacturing process tools such as 6S into its daily operations. Continuous improvement initiatives include the establishment of a safety committee, regular safety meetings and trainings, and visual safety reminders, such as boards with consequence thinking risk assessments, that are utilized throughout the facility. Comtran has also implemented many safety precautions, including mirrors to minimize blind spots, fork trucks equipped with blue floor lights, and lift tables for skids to help keep employees safe. Most importantly, Comtran has fostered a culture that encourages its employees to share potential safety concerns with their immediate supervisors or members of Comtran’s safety committee.
According to Tom Newcomb, VP of Operations, “We never compromise when it comes to safety and we are always looking for ways to prevent any future accidents. Encouraging everyone to use consequence thinking in their actions helps reinforce the importance of safety. Not only do we have an obligation to keeping our employees safe, but to our customers and end users by producing quality products. This achievement is truly a group effort, thanks to a strong dedication from all of our employees.”
