Comtran Awarded Contract for Dulles-D.C. Rail Transit Cable

Attleboro, MA – Comtran Cable has received its largest single contract to date to provide Hub-LINK® communications cable for Phase 2 of the $12 billion Silver Line Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project. When the 23-mile project is completed, Comtran will have 500,000 linear feet of its high performance cable installed above and below ground, including trackside control cable.

For the Silver Line project, Comtran will supply long single lengths of cable per reel in excess of 2 miles each. The contract includes 12-pair communications cable, 3-pair and 5-pair RS485 armored cable.

Bruce Sinnott, Director of Business Development, says interest in their specialty rail transit cable is exploding. “We’ve supplied Hub-LINK® cable into projects in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Honolulu, New York City, Boston, Atlanta and are quoting new projects daily,” he says. “Armored Hub-LINK® is generating a lot of interest due to its ability to withstand crushing forces. Plus, it reduces installation costs by eliminating the need for conduit. Armored cables are nothing new for power cables, but the interest in armoring of communication cables has really taken off.”

Cables meeting NFPA 130 and most TA and project specs are available from 16 to 24 AWG, 4 through 200 pair. For more information about Hub-LINK® specialty communication cables, including hardware specifications or performance standards, please contact Bruce Sinnott at
